I actually didn't have to get my daughter from school today since it was her last day so decided to meet Steve at the bar to discuss a plan of attack for the evening. I packed some small rods just in case we had to wait a while.
We went back and forth on a few options over some cold ones and decided on the Condos. Tide was incoming, but not super high or super strong, so it should be doable. We got down to ..... well, summertime beaches. People all over the beach, so we just chilled and waited our turn as it doesn't get dark until late these days.
Slight Salad... baits held the bottom well... seemed like it could be a good trip.
After about an hour, Steve and I get a Double Hook-up! Mine only turns out to be a 4' eel, but Squatch reeled in a green and ticked off male 7-gill! On the board!
65" male 7-gill. Mack. Incoming. 2-3'.
Steve was stoked to already being on the contest leader board with a 7-gill already! (but that wasn't to last long... like 30 minutes) lol
We get some critter hits and a nice shark bite that torched one of my mack heads. Then Steve gets a ripper! Damn, up 2-0!!!! or so I thought. He reels in a 4.5' eel that ripped clicker on his reel! It's been a while since we both got eels on the beach, but neither was horrible to our steel leader so no harm - no foul.
I then get a bump in which I could feel an eel tugging on my bait. Then the tugging stopped and I felt a chomp... I set the hook and felt the tell tale fight of a 7-gill! I get him to shore and temporarily knock Squatch off the podium with a 67" male Seven!
Lights on....
Lights off... (I forgot my camera so all pics were off my Google Phone)
We called it soon after since it was getting late quick, but we didn't do too bad in 2.5 hours of fishing which was about a shark and hour.
-Until next tide
